Cloud OS Installation on Rackspace Cloud Sites is quite simple process. In this guide we will show how to free Cloud OS Eye OS for online collaboration. Kindly note that, this method for Cloud OS Installation, is only for Rackspace Cloud Sites, not Rackspace Cloud Server, which we will describe later.

Its really very easy to install Cloud OS on Rackspace Cloud Sites. Simply download eye OS from eyeos.org and untar it on your hard disk.

Login to your Rackspace Cloud Control Panel and either add a new sub-domain or add a new domain for your Cloud OS installation. If you are not sure how to create a subdomain on Rackspace Cloud Sites, follow this guide , that is on how to Host Rackspace Cloud Sites Subdomain on Dropbox with .htaccess and shows the way to create a subdomain on Rackspace Cloud sites. Quite obviously you will use LAMP – , Apache, MySQL, PHP.


Now, click the Features Tab and create a database. Copy the database name, user name, password in a text editor while creating the database and when the database is created, click it to copy the host name. It should look like this -

paste on your text editor. Now open any sFTP (like WinSCP for Windows) program and go to the content folder of that domain or subdomain. You will see a index. file – delete it. Upload all the content of the extracted folders content to your web content folder.

It will take a huge time as there are lot of and we are using secure connection.

 

Installing Cloud OS

We have set eyeos.thecustomizewindows.com to run Cloud OS. So, we will point on browser like this -

If everything is OK, a nice screen will appear; click eyeOS  to Install our Cloud OS on Rackspace Cloud Sites. In the next screen, you will get like this -

Actually, we have used a separate named subdomain to run Cloud OS. It is not eyeos subdomain that is running Cloud OS. The reason is, people hotlinks the Cloud OS url and lot of bandwidth is wasted.
