Green Computing is environment friendly and energy efficient IT products either for consumer grade products or products related to production industry. Green Computing includes the conservation of natural resources, the economical use of existing conventional resources, recycling and the avoidance of potentially harmful substances to the environment.

The conflicts with Green Computing just opens up due to various political issues and most importantly any badge of Green Computing logically opens up the opportunity for the same unit of product at higher price with technically minimum investment from the brand’s side.

Certification, organizations and badges related to Green Computing

Blue Angel certification : The Blue Angel (Blauer Engel) is a German certification for products and services that have environmentally friendly aspects. It is one of the oldest organization which offered badge related with Green Computing.

Energy Star : Energy Star is an international standard which rates computers and other electrical and electronics products for energy efficiency as per the guideline of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

80 PLUS : 80 PLUS is an initiative to promote energy efficiency in computer power supply units (PSU).

These are some of the standardization in Green Computing, there are other badges, mostly initiated in the European countries like Eco Flower, RoHS etc.

The idea of green computing is an ideal novel approach; the goal of Green Computing is to reduce the use of hazardous materials, maximize energy efficiency by reducing its power consumption and recyclability of already aged or scrapped products. There is still lack of proper integrity between the consumer grade and industrial grade Green Computing certification. It is still not possible for very smaller brands, due to lack of resource to arrange and get certified by any Green Computing monitoring organizations. There is difference in how a home will dispose an ordinary electronic gadget with that of an industry. Research continues in the field of Green Computing technologies for more efficient usage.
