Multiseat Configuration and Multiseat Desktop virtualization

Multiseat Configuration is a single computer on which multiple users can work and Multiseat Desktop virtualization one mainframe is supporting multiple users. From core technical points, there is difference between Multiseat Configuration and Multiseat Desktop virtualization, although both apparently serves the similar purpose by giving the opportunity of using one physical computer by multiple users which Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor etc.

What is Multiseat Configuration ?

Multiseat Configuration usually consist of a monitor, a keyboard and are connected from a mouse for each individual user, the only common to a computer. With the increasing processing power and sufficient memory, programs can be processed simultaneously a large number of users. However, with the default configuration is that, only one user will be able to use the computer, usually the system is not fully utilized and the computer remains idle most of the time. With a Multiseat Configuration users can share a high-performance computer and save costs.

Multiseat Configuration versus Multiseat Desktop virtualization

Multiseat Configuration differs from Multiseat Desktop virtualization in various aspects. Unlike Multiseat Configuration, Multiseat Desktop virtualization is similar to mainframe computer with the support of multiple users. Multiseat Configuration is quite older technology and widely being used in various Government sectors.

But in case of Multiseat Desktop virtualization, unlike normal Server Virtualization, we need to provide the user a settings somewhat like Multiseat Configuration so that they can use the Graphical Part.

So to make the graphical part more robust, Multiseat Desktop virtualization to provide the similar experience of Multiseat Configuration, we need to add more graphical core. Multiseat Desktop virtualization usually needs special software on main computer and the Operating System needs no special type of installation. The implication is, older computers which can be upgraded can be used for Multiseat Desktop virtualization without any problem with licensing issues. But Multiseat Configuration needs a special reconfiguration.
