It is likely that too often neglect the sidebar of the WordPress blog (or other platform like Blogger) though is one of the hot spots. In more than one occasion we have been in the position where we went to a blog and not be able to find anything that interested us simply because we found nothing informational in the sidebar.
Here are some suggestions of Widgets shortlisted those you can place on your WordPress blog.
Search bar
Because we use it often when to find what we want and usually gives great results. It should be top of any other widgets, if search on the side of header or navigation bar is not available (see our navigation pane).
Archives
May not be necessary but people usually when a blog browse without seeking anything specific, for example just a simple title that caught his / her attention. Moreover, for the search engines it is a good site map. A good Navigation serves the purpose too.

List of links or blogroll
Everything depends on the blog to visit but if it includes related links can be useful for your readers and even though they may leave your blog through them, surely return. Moreover, in many cases these links are reciprocal. If footer widget is not available, the only place would be the sidebar.
Categories
If your blog does not include navigation that is bad. Navigation is much easier by grouping the contents of specific issues and gives an idea of your blog’s content. No need to add if HTML based (that is, it shows as list of links in the source code) Navigation menu below the header is available.
Popular Articles
Not mandatory to include it in the sidebar but it might be useful for the first visitors, to further promote your most popular posts because if readers have decided to read which are the most interesting.
Contact
To build relationships, to interact beyond the comments, so you will get ideas, objective criticism, questions, suggestions. Must it placed if can not be placed in the footer or elsewhere.
About
It is not necessary in all blogs, but readers like to know the writer, what interests he / she have, why he / she writes. Must it placed if can not be placed in the footer or elsewhere.
Your other blogs
If you do not promote your, it is a big loss… your readers may also be interested in your other projects.
RSS, Tweeter, e-mail subscription, Facebook widget
If you have a blog these are almost mandatory. Because many people keep the blogs through feed readers and because these are other ways to generate traffic.
Flickr photos
Depends on the type of blog.
Advertising
More chance to get noticed (that means clicked) if it is kept near other important widget. If visitors like your blog, and the advertisement itself looks attractive, they clicks. Maximum users do not know, clicking advertisement can only make you few cents to few dollars and it is the only way to keep the website running. Unfortunately, you can not tell them that (because, it is illegal according to major Advertisement companies laws), so you have to attract them. Do not punish them visually with lot of Advertisements. It is good to start with two companies and keep one unit of each from both of them.
Another type of advertisements are 125×125 Ads sold through another Advertising party. You can place 2 x 2 units easily.
Lastly, you can place affiliate links or banners too.
