As a photographer it is up to you how to capture your subject in order to make it enjoyable and give the natural appearance. There are many ways to take a nice close-up, using different types of lighting.

Do not forget the body

It is easy to forget the pose of the body, because it also influences the photograph. For example, if a person is bent forward, will also tend to lower the neck and head.

No Distractions

Not all depends on the light

But, as with any photo, the right lighting can make a big difference. Avoid using too much light which is hard. Spread the light with a panel, make it bounce on a wall, use a soft box, choose the method you prefer, but do not point the flash directly at the subject. Whatever you want is to have the softly diffused light on face. A light to the hair will give further prominence to the image, separating the head from the background.

Do not force the subject

It is essential to take the expression as natural as possible. Instead of asking the subject to smile, make sure to smile involving him with conversation. Keep him talking about something that interests them or do a few jokes to make him/her laugh.

The jaw line

Apart from the eyes, the other area of ??focus is the jaw line. It is the one that gives shape to the face and you should make sure to photograph it from the right angle.

Distortion is not your friend

Use a telephoto lens and step away from the subject. Then the zoom in on the face. Shooting with a wide-angle lens will give the face a little pleasant distortion, it might be just what you are trying to avoid. Normal Lens and/or Fixed Focal Lens are obviously the best for our purpose.
