Robotics is the branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation, structural disposition, manufacture and application of robots. Robotics combines various disciplines such as: mechanics, electronics, computer, artificial intelligence and control engineering. Other important areas in robotics is algebra, programmable logic, bio mechanics.
History of Robotics
The history of robotics has been linked to the construction of artifacts, trying to realize the human desire to create beings like him. The Spanish engineer Leonardo Torres Quevedo (GAP) (who built the first remote control for car by telegraphy wireless, the chess machine, the first air shuttle) coined the term “automatic” in connection with the theory automating tasks traditionally associated with humans. The term robot is coined by Isaac Asimov, defining the science of robots. Asimov also described the?Three Laws of Robotics.
Classification of robots and Robotics
According to the chronology the most common classification of Robots and Robotics is based on generation:
---
- 1st generation : Mechanical systems which were multi functional with a simple control system, either manual, fixed sequence or string variable.
- 2nd Generation: Could repeat a sequence of movements that has been previously executed by a human operator. The way is through a mechanical device. The operator performs the required movements while the robot follows and memorizes them.
- 3rd Generation : The controller became a computer that executes program commands and sends the handler to perform the necessary movements.
- 4 th Generation : Similar to above but also have sensors that send information to the control computer on the status of the process. This allows for intelligent decision-making and process control in real time.
Who works for Advanced Robotics

Robotics in Surgical Science - da Vinci Surgical System
It is very easy to think Robotics is a very enthusiastic science. Absolutely not because most projects of Robotics needs big funds, working on Robotics requires collaborative work from the knowledgeable peoples without the money seeking behavior.
Where we need more input in Robotics
There are two practical usage of Robots and Robotics – one is for avoiding risky and repetitive works – this mainly involves the production industry and there are brands which manufactures certain kinds of robots. Second most useful application of Robotics is Surgical and Medical science. In surgical science we can employ robots and Robotics to either use them as fully functional mechanical replacement body parts – like a leg or hand or we can employ the science of Robotics to help the surgeon – a faithful, skillful assistant. We will go in to this interesting part of Robotics later in future.
