Is PaaS Model of Cloud Computing is the Future Mainstream ?

Is PaaS Model of Cloud Computing is the Future Mainstream ? The question arises in the current situation, where bare PaaS services like Heroku Cloud or a kind of PaaS platform like AppFog, Red Hat OpenShift offering Web Interfaces for direct software installation, when Cloud Application Platform as a Service like Rackspace Cloud Sites are attracting from the developers to a web store owner, may be for the flexibility, free quota or easy manageability; whatever the reason is; it is undeniable fact that PaaS model is a magnet for a segment of users, who probably could easily use shared web hosting service before. The question, Is PaaS Model of Cloud Computing is the Future Mainstream arrives as PaaS inherits the essential features of Cloud, less costly and more elastic than traditional Shared Hosting, in some cases even more effective solution than a VPS at the same pricing.

Is PaaS Model of Cloud Computing is the Future Mainstream : Introduction

Unlike all other cloud service models, Platform as a Service (PaaS) received quite harsh criticism by Gartner once, via the comment indicating that PaaS frustrated expectations. Small, self-contained applications to the cloud-based development approach has worked in complex project, however, has limitations. But, Gartner is not a magician to predict the future. Historically we have seen various wrong quotations by quite bigger person and companies.

Increasing cost pressures on the IT departments and the ability to significantly shorten development cycles are convincing arguments for a more efficient approach. Already come a strong impetus from the rapidly growing market for mobile applications are emerging : who wants to build apps, wants a fast and flexible platform, whether it is infrastructure as a service or platform as a service, matters less. It is now easy to deploy an existing development and run-time environments in the network to achieve stability, security, scaling, etc. even without paying a dime.

But right now PaaS environments are often proprietary and providers use them for the developers to bind to their infrastructure. But that will not last longer. It is becoming apparent that PaaS providers are offering Open Source Platforms and also the support for there is increasing diversity of languages, frameworks, and programming interfaces. The project initiated by VMware Cloud Foundry PaaS as open source project, is the pioneer of this trend. The different interests of the IT manufacturer in the cloud market should do the rest to establish PaaS offerings in the market. The interests in the cloud business are very different : one wants to sell infrastructure services, hosting applications, wants to establish there AppStore or some are trying to make money on consulting services. In all these cases, PaaS is a suitable model.

Apart from Rackspace Cloud Sites, which is basically a managed aPaaS in nature, all provides git access; this is a big plus point over the shared hosting. Some even allows to run bash commands for configuring the server side application like Apache2.
