Install Lightweight CMS SkyBlueCanvas on Rackspace Cloud Sites easily. SkyBlueCanvas is driven by PHP and data is stored as XML. No MySQL database is needed. Anyone can really modify PHP or even use HTML within PHP, so the customization is easy. Rest is dependent on CSS and graphical parts. This guide, how to install Lightweight CMS SkyBlueCanvas although written for Rackspace Cloud Sites, the method is exactly the same for any web host which has a FTP (almost all has FTP).

Install Lightweight CMS SkyBlueCanvas : Preparation

If you are getting amazed by the description of this guide to install Lightweight CMS SkyBlueCanvas, you have many points to get astonished. First, point towards their official website :

Vim

You will get the downloadable zip file from Downloads section. But that is not which we were pointing towards. Just check the themes :

On their official website, the HTML source code is showing clean microdata and rich snippets too. And this is not the end, there are lot of such CMS which do not need MySQL or noSQL or any kind of database. Risk free from SQL injection. Unless you are actually inviting javascript malwares, practically there is no risk. Obviously if your webhost is great enough careless about running PHP, everything will be shown quite badly, may be like a text file – that is actually a risk of WordPress too or any PHP based CMS.

Download is done (we hope). Now uncompress the download. The first link from what we download included all. We wanted only the CMS, that was inside a folder named skybluecanvas-version-id. Whatever, you will see the files like this :

Your work is to upload them using any FTP software like WinSCP for Windows or FileZilla for any major OS.

Install Lightweight CMS SkyBlueCanvas : Steps

I use a ported version of WinSCP on Mac. These are the steps :

Now point towards the domain / subdomain / subfolder where these files are. That is installation. By the way, change your file permissions to 777 recursively from right click menu under WinSCP or any software after selecting all the files (otherwise you will face a chart like error page). After installation again do the same but permission will be 755. There will be a htaaccess.txt file. Rename it to : dot htaccess -> .htaccess

You can login from the installation’s /admin.php file on browser.
