Pin an external hard drive or pen drive to the taskbar in Windows 7

Normally, we can not pin an external hard drive or pen drive or thumb drive to the taskbar in Windows 7 directly. This is only possible for the applications.

Here is a tutorial to pin an external hard drive or pen drive or thumb drive directly to the taskbar in Windows 7.

The procedure can also be adapted for a backup partition, another internal hard drive.

In this example, a Transcend External 4 GB thumb Drive will be pinned to the Taskbar in Windows 7.

On the right-click the desktop, click New, then Shortcut:

To enter the location of the thumb drive or external hard drive, click Browse and point to the external hard drive, then click OK.

In this example, the location of Transcend external hard drive is H:

Add it to:

C: (BACKSLASH) Windows (BACKSLASH) explorer.exe

The exact location is (the path of the hard drive being in inverted commas):

C: (BACKSLASH) Windows (BACKSLASH) explorer.exe ” H: (BACKSLASH) “

Change (BACKSLASH) to appropriate sign!

Then click Next:

Enter a name, Transcend for this example, then click Finish.

The new shortcut named Transcend is created on the desktop:

To customize its icon, right click, select Properties, then Change Icon; One can also search for other icons in the folder C: > Windows > System32 > imageres.dll by clicking Browse:

Click Apply.

On the right-click the shortcut, select Pin to the taskbar:

And it appears on the taskbar:

Remove the shortcut created on the desktop.
Of course adapt the procedure for a backup partition, another internal hard drive to pin on the taskbar in Windows 7.
