In our house we have suffered several attacks of thieves, coincidentally, a few days ago, I commented via PM to a friend that we were almost the victim of a robbery. We decided to see how it could be safer in our home. And so, we have concluded that a very efficient way to improve the security of our home surveillance system.
Why? Easy. With a monitoring system could tell if someone, other than our home is near, and could then call the police to come help. We have decided and have found the program we will use, it is Yawcam. It’s free so you do not pay anything.
Yawcam use your webcam to establish it as the home video surveillance system, with which we can detect movements in the same so that when this happens as you indicate or alert. The program has the ability to send to our mail we want, from alerts to photos of each frame to be detected in the webcam.

During our test, we found that, it detects smoke very well too:
It is a gush of cigarette smoke blown at an angle 0f approximately 60 degrees, 8 feet away from the web camera. So, it can be used as remote fire/smoke alarm device too!
In Windows 7, when you will run the program for the first time, Microsoft Windows firewall will ask you, whether you will allow its access. Click yes to continue. You can block it any time from Microsoft Windows firewall settings from control panel.
Note that, your Microsoft Windows 7 may switch to Basic theme from Aero.
Similarly you can send photos or screenshots of your webcam through an FTP account. Something that we found most interesting is that it can deliver Yawcam streaming so if you want to access remotely to what is happening in your webcam.
In short, this free program , compatible with Microsoft Windows 7 , Microsoft Vista, Microsoft XP etc. and it is very useful.
Download and read the instructions in their website.
