Though this short post is aimed mainly for WordPress users, Blogger blog users or other platform users can employ them as well.
Update the blog every day by posting new posts, if possible multiple times per day. We have found that publishing three articles per day at eight hours interval yields the optimum result. Google and other search engines love unique and fresh information. If you can not find anything to write, go to different forums of your writing topic and look for the questions people asking, write a post on it. Use the same words the user has asked. It is possible that those are most commonly used key phrases those are searched by common people. Giving an example will make you understand.
Suppose Corrine writes about pet dogs. She has already written 700+ posts in this 3 years those almost covers every possible things that people asks about pet dogs. Obviously, no new dog will be “discovered” or there is no change of “new version of dogs” ; unlike softwares. So, in her dog-blog, to add new content she needs to keep close eye on pet forums. There might be some people asking, “why my dog’s tail is getting straight?” . If Corrine does not know the answer, she has to find it and gather the information and write in her own language.

You have to write unique content, not unique thoughts everyday. Understand the difference. You can subscribe to such forums’ RSS feed to make it easy. You can subscribe the whole forum’s RSS feed (that will be very bulky if the forum is very active) or select a specific category.
Try to design your own Theme from scratch or a child theme. We wrote ago an article how to design a WordPress child theme; you might be interested to read that. Do not keep the hyperlink of theme creator at the footer. Remove it from your footer.php file in theme editor. For free WordPress users (those are not hosted on own server), try to use those themes who do not leave such link on footer (free or paid themes).
If you have already read our other posts, you know that it is very important to have a good navigation system and breadcrumb. Search engines love the inner optimization. Try to install a plugin that displays a similar posts. This plugin is useful for both user and search engines.
Make links to other resources in the post. This is useful not only for the search engine, but for the person who will know what the author had in mind.
Onether thing is to put meta description and other meta stuffs for each posts. As we said before, both platinum SEO and All in One SEO pack are good. It is a misconception that they give a boost. Actually the Meta description that works for the boost. So, it will be equally well if you use an (generally premium) WordPress theme that has that feature in built. You will probably not need any SEO plugin then.
It is important to have your WordPress (or other blog) as much as possible error free on W3C validation. It increases the readability by the search engine crawlers. Personally we think best is no error (that is validated); if the errors are due to the Advertisements, keep them less than 10 and do not put those advertisements (those are not valid code by W3c tool) right on the footer; keep inside body or (best) put on the sidebar.

I wish I had your energy to write several blog posts each day. You are absolutely amazing — always new and interesting content.
