Notepad tutorial for advanced users: adding header or footer

Here is a Notepad Tutorial for the advanced Windows 7 users. Windows Notepad is very light text editor takes only ~636 K memory while running. However, most Windows 7 users are not aware that header or footer that comes after printing a Notepad document can be added or modified, hence we wrote this Notepad tutorial.

Notepad Tutorial to add header or footer

Open Notepad, Click the File menu, and then click Page Setup :   Notepad tutorial for advanced users-adding header or footer We have used Notepad tutorial

Notepad Tutorial : the syntax you can use for adding header or footer

In the Header or Footer boxes, type the header and footer text you want to use. You can also use any of the character combinations in the following table to create more sophisticated headers and footers.

Syntax for using this Notepad Tutorial: 

To Get these Results Type this
Insert the date &d
Insert the time from your computer’s clock &t
Insert the page number &p
Insert the name of the file, or “(untitled)” if the file has no name &f
Insert an ampersand (&) &&
Align the header or footer to the left, center, or right &l, &c, or &r

More tips for this Notepad Tutorial:

  • You can use more than one character combination in the Header or Footer boxes.
  • To align text to the left, center, or right, you must first type &l, &c, or &r in the Header or Footer boxes, followed by any other character combinations you want to use.
  • You can also combine your own text with the character combinations for this Notepad Tutorial. For example, Page &p will print out as Page 1, Page 2, and so on.

Note: Nothing will be visible on the Screen after you make changes. This Notepad Tutorial will work on documents only after printing.
