Very short tutorial. We will easily open and edit .htaccess and other several dot files in Windows 7 or any Windows OS using this simple trick.

 

Notes for open and Edit .htaccess file tutorial

 

Previously, we wrote how to create .htaccess file in Windows 7 using only Notepad. But, sometimes we need to edit .htaceess file, we usually use the server’s editor or online FTP’s default editor, but you can open and Edit .htaccess right in your Windows 7 after reading this tutorial.

 

You might recall, we wrote about gedit before and also in an tutorial how to use the drag and drop features effectively in Windows 7.
In this tutorial on how to open and Edit .htaccess file, we will combine these two tricks.

Steps to open and Edit .htaccess file in Windows 7

 

  • You need to install gedit to open and Edit .htaccess files or other dot files. Other advanced text editors might work, but we have not tested. Honestly, gedit is far superior to edit php, CSS and other files those are important to us.
  • Simply drag your .htaccess or any dot file to gedit shortcut :

  •  …and it will open with gedit. Alternatively, you can start gedit first then open and edit .htaccess file from the file menu :

Open and Edit htaccess
Just Save after editing, it will work normally.
