WP Super Cache With Rackspace Cloud Files CDN guide is an update due to change of technology by using Open Cloud. Old one was Configuring WP Super Cache With Origin Pull or Origin Push CDN. One visitor commented recently in one of the articles on Page Speed Optimization that, he can not believe that his website is loading so fast just by following the words. So the things are actually working. Thats too, without the need of any Page Specialist’s fees.

Preface for WP Super Cache With Rackspace Cloud Files CDN

WP Super Cache can out perform any Cache Plugin on Cloud Setup. But,  WP Super Cache actually needs some manual tweaks and extra supportive plugins. For example,  WP Super Cache itself can not combine or minify javascripts. There can be three situations for using Rackspace Cloud Files CDN and WP Super Cache combination :

  • Your server server is managed Rackspace Cloud Server or Rackspace Cloud Sites
  • Your server is unmanaged Rackspace Cloud Server
  • Your server is non Rackspace Cloud Server

It will be pathetic to write for individual setup. Rather we are taking its a good, managed Cloud Server. In other words, we are avoiding some specific tweaks needed for Rackspace Cloud Sites.

Configuring WP Super Cache With Rackspace Cloud Files CDN

The major problem of minifying javascripts using any WordPress Plugin is, with time, there will garbage files generated by the plugins without your knowledge. Beware of this odd problem. It increases server’s CPU load and thereby increase in consumption of compute cycles.

You can minify externally and upload the combined files using proper tweaks or can load without combining, if you do not have a lot of javascripts and CSS. That is actually a separate topic.

The best practice to upload files to Rackspace Cloud Files CDN, with current setup is to use a plugin like older version (1.0) of CDN Sync Tool with WP Super Cache and manually use the CDN URL of any streaming files within the post / pages by manual upload using Cyberduck.

In Cyberduck there will be three options if you click any container or content :

You will never get the optimized result, if you are not using the streaming URL for videos. With Open Cloud, this actually has created a big difference in speed. This is the point of modification of the old guide on this guide on WP Super Cache With Rackspace Cloud Files CDN, you actually can not use the Streaming CDN URL with any cache plugin.
