Cloud Database is becoming a major branch of traditional data management. Many still think that conventional database is capable of controlling any amount of resources without interruptions, distributing, running and consuming a solution of distributed data anywhere. But, Cloud Database as a Service is itself such a solution at cheaper rate, that the disadvantages can be ignored partially. In the cloud, high availability is not just about hardware reliability. As consumers are fully abstracted from the real infrastructure, one can not add or change energy supply HDD if something goes wrong or if you need additional resources. Cloud Database as a Service might not be predictable if not from a reliable vendor and must be continuously monitored and managed. Apart from the large-scale cloud outages that we all know, we must face the facts : server failure, hardware failure and other problems are all part of what lies behind any cloud service, and certainly not disappear in case Cloud. Cloud Database as a Service needs good backend support and monitoring.
The major advantage of Cloud Database as a Service from technical point is, they usually use a Fully Qualified Domain Name and that responds quite quickly as their other demons (read services like FTP server, cron) are actually not running, where as for a localhost database, all services are running, the same CPU or Cloud is under stress. Division and distribution is the rule of today’s web technology and Cloud Database as a Service is just a part of it.

The management Cloud Database as a Service is not complex at the frontend as we usually need to access the GUI tool like PHPMyAdmin for MySQL, their key components are on the software stack and is managed. Even if your main webserver is unmanaged, the Cloud Database as a Service is managed and you need not to know the criticality and complexity of a Cloud Database as a Service backend, which can be a daunting task that requires considerable experience and considerable resources are not always available to everyone.

To create two database server of your own (we wrote such a detailed guide before), you will need quite good knowledge or quite good money. Without two database servers, configuring as master and slave, the actual benefit of a scalable database can not be obtained. This own scalable cloud database is great but is quite costly affair. With Cloud Database as a Service, cost reduction becomes a big factor.
