Google Books for Authors and Publishers : Getting Started

Advertisement

Google Books for Authors and Publishers is not only a good opportunity for the academicians to publicize own written books but also carries mark for SEO. Google Books for Authors and Publishers is also a good option for monetization. Google basically gives a priority to original intellects, the reason is quite obvious – the primary owners of Google carries good academic profile, unlike other companies. Google Books for Authors and Publishers needs a bit careful detailing as there are various legal issues are associated with it.

Google Books for Authors and Publishers : Better Way to Expose Yourself

There are two ways to manually verify yourself – one is using Google Merchant and Google Maps, both are verified by phone, SMS or postcard like Google AdSense; but in that case you need a real business. We have running business and smart Google just added a address verification process for the AdSense cheque, when we signed up for Merchant account. Managing Director is officially my father. Two peoples are different. I need to add myself as Author. I basically have lot of small books, papers apart from my patents. It is a quite good opportunity to get more exposure plus a good boy status to Google Search. I think many of you do have one or two small ebooks like those you sell on Internet Marketing Forums. Topic might differ from mine but they are also books and you do have done enough work behind it.
Please read the previous non specific article on Google Authorship Confirmation Email. Another important read will be Optimizing Name in Google Search For Professionals and Famous Persons.

Few things I want to emphasize about Google Books for Authors and Publishers as most has no print media publication.

ISBN is International Standard Book Number. If your book has been a Text Book, then you will have another number named Electronic Textbook Track Number or ETTN which usually confuses both the authors and publishers, it is complicated for Text Book and you must contact Google to emphasize that it is a Text Book. Normally, 99% will not have this issue.
Secondly, if you have or use a Title (Like Dr. for Doctorate or Doctor in non academic wide usage), please fill it up. Thirdly, in case of AdSense – you are the Publisher. In case of books, if you write a book, you are an author. For ISBN, I use a simple script (optional step before entering the ISBN number) :

<span style="color: #ff00ff;">// Example PHP Script to check 13 digit ISBN</span>
<span style="color: #993300;">function</span> is_isbn_13_valid(<span style="color: #008000;">$n</span>)<span style="color: #993300;">{</span>
    <span style="color: #008000;">$check</span> = 0;
    for ($i = 0; $i &lt; 13; $i+=2) <span style="color: #008000;">$check</span> += substr($n, $i, 1);
    for ($i = 1; $i &lt; 12; $i+=2) <span style="color: #008000;">$check</span> += 3 * substr($n, $i, 1);
    <span style="color: #993300;">return</span> <span style="color: #008000;">$check</span> % 10 == 0;
<span style="color: #993300;">}</span>

The cover must be a scanned / digital copy of the front page of Print book, in case of currently not in print book, carefully create the cover. If you do not have a publisher, you have to be your own publisher. Beware ! if it is not a published book, do not forget to take Copyright. In case, your book has some parts of your patent (US or any Country), please consult a Lawyer because the procedure is a bit complex (you are allowing a third party that is the publisher and Google to reveal and use your patent) to be handled.
