When Absence of Color Makes the Photograph Perfect? In Simple Words, What Are the Deciding Factors For Black and White Instead of Color? Absence of Money Makes Kind of Torn Away Shirt – an Icon of Poverty not a Fashion Parade. Black and White Photographs demands extra precaution and Tips as our Digital Camera™s Sensor is actually intended for color Photography. Yes, we should consider When to Use Black and White in Photography but When Absence of Color Makes the Photograph Perfect is more precise question.

Many photographers had used only black and white for many years before the introduction of color. Watching the world in color versus watching as black and white is definitely not bring the same emotion. Nowadays, black and white is a purely an artistic choice, there are reasons of force majeure that will lead us to use it. I saw a Wedding Photograph on Facebook of the Bride taken with a DSLM Camera as Black and White. It made me very sad. The gesture, posture and background made it a representative of an unknown sad event.

When Absence of Color Makes the Photograph Perfect : When Presence of Color Builds the Distraction

A monochrome photo has something less than a color photo.  This is the first advantage of being black and white, which is possibly the most known member of monochrome family. Perceptually, color of an item attracts much attention of the observer. Consequently, the mere presence of the color can distract from other elements of a picture, such as light or the texture of the surface of the Objects. Distracting effect is even greater if the Colors are strong.

Black and white, form important aspects of multiple dimensions, namely:

  1. Form, the outlines of things
  2. Volume, in three-dimensional space
  3. Texture or plot, the peculiar characteristics of the material of which an object is composed of
  4. Pattern, the rhythmic repetitions of similar objects or parts of objects

These elements are important in a photo, they earn a lot more weight in a photo black and white.

When Absence of Color Makes the Photograph Perfect : The Subjective Artistic Sense

Working on the contrast is one of the basic steps to create a good black and white Photo conversion. In Black and White Photograph, very bright areas become white or nearly so, while areas which are heavily shadowed head towards black. At the same time, a soft light creates soft and delicate nuance.

When-Absence-of-Color-Makes-the-Photograph-Perfect

A color photo is instinctively perceived as a 1:1 representation of the reality. At first glance, of a documentary value, mere value of recording of events. Obviously it is not always the case, there is a multitude of artistic photos in color. Black and white, by its nature moves away us from the reality.  In fact, the real world is not black and white.  This makes a black and white picture “automatically” more being abstract. The absence of color leaves more room for interpretation. This one will be Black and White. It is obvious due to lack of option.

Keep a big point in mind, black and white usually points towards an undefined emptiness. Animals, Objects might bring the easy Artistic “value” but, for Landscape and Portrait; to add a real Artistic Sense, dedication with the particular niche is what is of utmost importance to get the best out of the most known monochrome family.

The quality of the Lens used, Resolution Power, Handling all the basic parameters to master Photography become naked in Black and White Photograph as we can precisely view the textures.
