Digital Author Identification : The Need in Today’s Web

Digital Author Identification is a Need today for Web Properties to fight Plagiarism. Unfortunately there is no Free, Universal System for Websites. A fellow blogger said almost a quote – “If your articles are copied then you must have copied it!”. Yes, DMCA is there to remove copied content, but identifying the copied content is quite difficult, writing the legal stuffs is more difficult.

In this situation, to make the understanding more difficult; think of a situation where two different person has the exactly same name. In real life we write S/O, W/O etc. to include more criterion to make sure the fact – this Abhishek Ghosh is definitely which someone is referencing towards.

Changing name, part or in full or taking alias name is legal in certain countries.

The alias name system is legal in certain countries for fair intention. But, for web properties; this can be used with unfair intention. Within this website, a good person commented on a blog post after reading my Author profile – “What? When Dr. Abhishek Ghosh became Orthopedic Surgeon? He is…”. His intention or the other person’s interest is fair, but it can happen than, 03 John Doe (s) actually creditable for real writing. Google’s abnormal idea of adding 1,2,3,4 beside +FirstnameLastname actually is a shortcut, is not it?

Digital Author Identification : Actually it Exists

Digital Author Identification system actually exists. The system assigns an unique number. This is Dutch System. The Digital Author Identification links to the database in institutional libraries with research information system. The Digital Author Identification (DAI) is a unique national number for every research workers, not blog writers. There are many other system which are part of International Standard Name Identifier.

Digital Author Identification

ResearcherID is an identifying system for scientific authors introduced in January 2008 by Thomson Reuters. He did a nice but easy and free thing :

Vim

But the method is too primitive :

There is another complicated system named Digital Object Identifier (DOI), however it is a paid system. Digital Object Identifier (DOI), is quite advanced and capable to adapt with JSON callback, can be embedded as XML.
Basically Google introduced the Authorship for identifying the Person, but actually the system has flaws as one actually can use another’s profile link, for example to promote stuffs.
