Daddy like instructive talks are fully absent in Google algorithm change in 2014. The reason is more related to business than anything else. Basically there are several reasons. Whatever the Net Profit shows, Google is a Business which is at risk. The risk was not that realized by Google before the reveal by Snowden, i.e. the Malware and Spyware activities ran by NSA and helped by three giants, which traditionally known to the aware mass audience to be monopolistic in nature – Google, Microsoft and Apple. Publishers using Google AdSense, lived with an unknown fear of getting banned – none to answer why banned. Shut down the website and content becomes of Google and another Company. How? If a website is fully closed, the Google Cache remains. Another is, The Wayback Machine. Page Rank is only practical “invention” by Google, others mostly are acquisitions or commercial fork of some Open Source project. Most of the projects of Google are not Open Source, the SDKs are Open Source.
From Business point of view, Google Inc. basically a middleman. Although, they are trying to mimic Apple Inc. (think about Google Glass, Mobile devices etc.) but basically they served the purpose of a middleman – a bridge between the original manufacturer (content producers, service providers etc.) and the consumers ( people who need information). This model is true for Google Search, Google Ad related products. A middleman agency will never want the direct communication between these two groups – original producers and the consumers. Because, the chance of making money becomes fully off – if Rackspace directly buys an ad slot on this website, it will cost them lesser than they actually spends for Google AdWords. The whole model was build over 16 years. Now, on only for the Search part, there are more interested parties who has nothing – primarily they are the SEO services, SEO Consultants etc. SEO is a matter that uncannily requires no degree. If you think very carefully, no SEO service can be 100% compliant with Google’s rules – from logical point, some “manipulation” will be done. Optimization of Title is also a manipulation. It is morally right, doorway page is morally incorrect. Moral is a very finer line. The business model was running quite nicely till few factors made the original content producers shift from the Google dependency.
Google Algorithm Change 2014 is Not Scary Because It Is The Time To Fight Back
The way, Matt Cutts is joked on Twitter now, is nothing but the outburst of the anger of the original content producers. PRISM made their brand image quite dirty, some EU countries fully denied to use Google Apps. Apple’s reputation, despite PRISM has not been affected much, the reason is quite clear – Apple is a high end device manufacturers who has a clear cut business strategy. Apple’s approach to penetrate is mainly design based. Apple has quite infamously bad products – but the number on high end is very less. The reader can check the list of acquisition by Google, Apple and Microsoft. Apple has the least number of acquisitions – they have a focussed business. It is unlikely that Apple suddenly will open a Public Cloud Service. It is less understood – Apple never considers Microsoft a their rival. Otherwise Microsoft Office for Mac would never sell on iStores. Apple knows it clearly, at least 50% of their high end computer users can use any other Linux or UNIX from a different manufacturer. That rival image is to attract the 50% crazy users who actually buy a gizmo. Actually there more points – Bootcamp is designed to sell Microsoft’s version of OpenVMS.
It is Cloud Computing which started the basic problem. Amazon was kinda tolerable to Google, but the sudden gush of the Hardware manufacturers, core software manufacturers towards PaaS, SaaS, IaaS revealed their all Cloud services to be very much weak. The situation is like, a Fake Spiritual Guru has been caught for committing rape. The bigger original content producers realized the situation much before. They changed their own business model – traffic source became Facebook, Twitter. They started to offer services or sell own products.
For Enterprise grade search, Google does have an enemy – Apache Solr. Now think about a situation – suddenly HP, Rackspace, Dell, Fujitsu, Amazon started an open source search service – where will be the position of Google Search? To get the answer, think about OpenStack. It is beneficial because there will be no need of investing on AdWords, browsers are mostly OpenSource, it will not take much time to destroy Google’s model. Is not it better for Google to do a friendship with the smaller Publishers? Yes.
Number of Factors Which Rendered Google’s Business Towards the Bad
- Pinterest – the most unexpected social media which dangerously ate up good percentage of users from various social networks. Pinterest will run commercial Ads for business sooner.
- Facebook – Facebook Ads cost lesser and more effective for selling products
- The undulating situation with Google Plus. Whatever said, Google Plus actually could not penetrate Facebook users’ market. There are many reasons. Facebook also supplies information to NSA, though.
- Reveal of PRISM, reveal of NSA and possible connection of software companies with HeartBleed Bug.
- China has fully no entry sign.
- The rise of Open Source Softwares – As replacement for all the Google products including analytics
- Ban of Google Apps in certain EU countries. India’s official advice “try to avoid these companies”
- Practically acceptance of the fact – copy pasting websites can outrank the original website
- General awareness of security and privacy of the users
