Water and Portrait Photography

Portrait Photography is indispensable part of life just like water. Less is said about Water and Portrait Photography duet than it deserves. Some sub-niche gets a bit less importance in Photography. Portrait Photography is such a wider niche that it can easily be sub-divided in to few sub-niches. In our previous publication, we talked about Point of View Shot in Portrait Photography, which we believe is less number of people expressed in this way.

For the Water Photography Part, we can clearly point you towards two articles – Water Photography for Static Droplet and Water Photography for Splash. If you read the articles, you will understand, we definitely need to do some tricks for excellent effect. But – we can not use any harmful chemical as the most expensive organ, eye can be injured by the added chemicals. Many techniques for getting great results from Water and Portrait Photography niche is quite commonly used by various product manufacturers in advertisements. You can immediately recall a huge number of such photographs, right?

Water and Portrait Photography Duo Establishes Gender Firmly

In the advertisements, water splash is frequently used to promote any product either directly related to face or gender in general. Water accentuates the difference in gender – a women emerging from a lake, accentuates feminine gender, likewise a male washing face accentuates maleness. It is not that, a kid’s portrait with splashing water is not interesting, but the young age group is most suitable for this sub-niche of Portrait Photography.

It will possibly look a kind of helpless to look at a portrait of an old women washing face over basin. Artistically, it indicates towards something else – for some reason our emotion is directed in different way. The soap manufactures never uses aged model for their products – the wrinkled aged skin can make the future customer a kind of philosopher.

Water and Portrait Photography : The Niche That Exists But Less Said About

We do not want to repeat about the required Portrait Lens for DSLR in this article with a different test. Actually, the tips for How to Shoot Action and Sports and How To Take Photograph of a Concert or Show will help you a lot – because you actually need to freeze an action. Water is known to be dynamic, except in very compositions, you will actually need to freeze an action. This covers the optical part and settings part for our topic Water and Portrait Photography.

Water-and-Portrait-Photography

We were talking about simulation of water’s dreamy effect. Water at 4 degree Celsius is most viscous. But, the model will get pneumonia if you put in a water tub full of water at 4 degree Celsius. Spraying, splashing and dumping water are the usual methods and unlike our other photography method used for creating effects for water drops – water must be of room temperature to prevent any adverse facial gesture. A risky test will be to throw a glassful of cold water on your wife’s face. Yes, its very terrific and even if it is a setup, it is impossible for the model to hide the reaction.

Water based gels which are used for making your hair looking as if wet, are great to increase the viscosity of water with one limitation – the eyes must be closed. Also there should be another person present to pour lot of water after taking the shot. High Speed Photography is great fun when combined with water and Portrait. To create a nice “silky” effect of falling water, the model’s face can be messaged with baby oil (its lighter), any undesired effect exerted can be “undone” by cleaning the oil coating with face wash. Actually it is becoming like describing a woman’s dressing table…oh yes, any makeup must be water proof. A rarest chance to make our Water and Portrait Photography colorful is a festival in India – Holi.

Never forget, water can create an apparently helpless situation, beside making the composition towards romantic.
