Compatibility of Our Existing OpenStack Guides For IBM OpenStack

In recent times we noticed that peoples are searching around IBM OpenStack things. We have many guides on HP Cloud, Rackspace OpenStack. Here is disclaimer & short note on compatibility of our existing OpenStack guides for IBM OpenStack. Intended audience already know about what is OpenStack. We are talking about the IaaS, storage users of OpenStack installation by HP, IBM, Rackspace; not those who will install full OpenStack on hardware. The reason of this note is for the reason – the way the users can use OpenStack varies according to way of installation which affects the way of usage of API and tools which use OpenStack Python Client.HP has closed their public cloud service. Obviously, ordinary SSH guides has no difference on any cloud server, we are not talking about installing LAMP, LEMP etc. Optimisation guides for MySQL is vendor specific as the hardware will differ. Essentially the quality of hardware of HP, IBM, Rackspace will not hugely vary. Some extra services and the quality of managed layer, quality of sysadmins force to select vendor A instead of vendor B.

IBM’s way of installation of OpenStack is similar to HP, not Rackspace. Rackspace has difference because OpenStack was their thing – they had lot of backward, forward compatibility matters for the whole network. As both IBM and HP installed OpenStack with full documentation on new clusters, our guides mostly compatible. Obviously both vendors have more or less own extra tools but exactly like WordPress, the OpenStack Horizon has a typical look – top menu, side bar.

Our all guides on OpenStack Python client tools are compatible, like OpenStack Python client tools, Python script to upload to OpenStack Swift. OpenStack Mac

Our OpenStack Swift guides for HP cloud will be fully compatible with IBM OpenStack.

The major difference will be at OpenStack Neutron router, subnet, OpenStack Raksha etc.

Searching our website with OpenStack, Swift, Neutron, Nova, HP Cloud etc keywords will show relevant guides. If we have written ABC guide for HP Cloud, it is equivalent to ABC guide for IBM OpenStack, like Manage OpenStack Swift With Fog (HP Cloud) means Manage OpenStack Swift With Fog (IBM OpenStack).

Obviously all vendors have own guides and IBM is notable for huge amount of documentation since when domain became public.

HP Cloud OpenStack in that way of installation had compatibility issues with OpenStack Heat, Hot like things which are favourite of Rackspace. IBM has similar psychology like Rackspace. Basically HP Cloud OpenStack in that way of installation made automation very difficult.
