Hyperlinks links point to another webpage and link relationships explains why we are pointing so. The question what are rel=”noopener”, rel=”noreferrer” appearing because latest versions of WordPress has rel=”noopener”, rel=”noreferrer” on link in visual editing mode. Another such link relationship was discussed previously — rel=”author” and rel=”me” in WordPress in the easiest way. rel=”nofollow” is most common link relationship which requests search bots not to crawl, re-crawl the linked page.

What Are rel=”noopener”, rel=”noreferrer”?

rel=”noreferrer” indicates that no referrer information should be leaked when the link is clicked – browser will not send an HTTP Referrer header if someone clicks the link. HTML5 specs has full description of this attributes :

If a link is created with rel=”noreferrer” to a different webpage that technically will target a new window to open without passing referrer information but it is practical to give both target=”_blank” and rel=”noreferrer” attributes to the link to achieve the goal. Hence, directly none will know where from the backlinks are coming. But search engines of these days have artificial intelligence, powered by machine learning. Search engines actually can calculate in complicated roundabout way. But other bad bots, data thieves, attackers will not know.

rel=”noopener” is performance booster. The random numbers generated by the browsers are kept generating at 60fps. Google has documentations :

My SEO Expert Said That rel=”noopener”, rel=”noreferrer” Are Bad?

Link relationship is quite old matter, there are HTML5 standards and Google web search really do not use old way but use machine learning. Link without rel=”nofollow” always will be passing link juice. Adding rel=”nofollow” is a deliberate attempt.

My WordPress doing bad around SEO after rel=”noopener”, rel=”noreferrer”

It is normal for Google like web search to re-crawl, calculate and understand the meaning. There can not be any bad effect as end result. Indeed, increasing security, privacy and page loading time will make on page SEO better.

Will I sell link with rel=”noopener”, rel=”noreferrer”?

As there is no meaning of explaining so much about rel=”noopener”, rel=”noreferrer” theories, it is profitable to follow the traditional convention. Their site actually would be better indicated and loaded slightly faster with rel=”noopener”, rel=”noreferrer”. What makes money and does not violate search engine, Ad network policies for you, you can perform. If you sell mass external links with rel=”noopener”, rel=”noreferrer”; search engines will learn that it is a bad site – it is about mathematical logic.
