Hot glue gun is a tool with heating element inside like soldering iron. Exactly like soldering irons, it needs electricity to work. Glue sticks for hot melt guns is practically plastic, they are thermoplastic adhesive which commonly sold as solid cylindrical sticks of different diameters. The gun melt the plastic glue, and the user pushes the hot molten glue through the gun usually with a mechanical trigger. The glue squeezed out of the hot nozzle can be as hot as molten solder.

Hot melt adhesives are versatile and capable of bonding different substrates including rubbers, ceramics, metals, plastics, glass and wood. Components of glue sticks i.e. hot melt adhesives varies and usage indication written on their packages. In electronics work, we can use hot glue gun to keep loose wires neatly stuck, join multiple prototyping boards.

How Hot Glue Gun Differs From Each Other?

Many low cost hot glue guns works at a single temperature. Tools with multiple temperature is intended for the advanced users and experienced professionals. High heat is practical for wood, whereas lower heat is practical for a cable or wire. We recommend hot glue gun with adjustable settings.

Common cheap hot glue guns has single tip. For many DIY works, you probably need a hot air gun with interchangeable tips. Like drill machines, there are cordless version and with cord versions. There are other minor matters like presence of a switch on body of hot air gun, LED indicator etc. Do not buy anything below 60 Watt power.

BSTPOWER 100W model is inviting for lot of features including interchangeable nozzles, Stanley is better to rely for probable availability of servicing, warranty. Surebonder CL-800F is cordless and has a stand. Surebonder has astonishingly easier availability of accessories across different nations. Another standard company is Dremel.

Bad hot glue guns will tend to leak glue where not needed and not dispense glue at targeted place. Hot glue gun with interchangeable tips/nozzles is presently “hot” and cost higher.
