Domain Authority (DA) is a numerical value ranging from 0-100 to reflect an idea of how well a website will rank on Google web search and possibly other web searches. It was developed by Moz. The Domain Authority (DA) of a website points towards the relevance for a specific industry. In the beginning, Google made the PageRank (PR) public which unleashed a flood of optimization strategies. There was the exceptional quality of reverse engineering efforts of link building which actually worked and driven Google crazy. That was the original reason behind yearly launching various updates by Google to avoid “hacking” the thing. Google’s PageRank is industry non-specific. Google ceased to update the public Pagerank for many years before officially removing the support for Toolbar Pagerank (2016). However, PageRank actually exists but the numerical value of the Domain Authority (DA) is more practical.

What is a good DA?
That somewhat depends on the niche. Domain Authority (DA) is more complex guessing the updates by the search engines (read Google). A 10 years old website with a Domain Authority (DA) of 52 is enough good but long term efforts should remain in mind to push the Domain Authority (DA) towards 60 or above. A higher Pagerank (PR) or Domain Authority (DA) both are more about mental peace of feeling safe. Moz’s free online tool to check DA and other metrics is sufficient for the most. There are over 40 factors to make the numerical value of DA. So improving DA is not as simple and becoming aggressive can severely penalize. - Do I provide useful information to the sites who will link?
Please do not make the Domain Authority (DA) of your website a headache in a hurry. We are describing the strategies following which not only your Domain Authority (DA) will increase, your website actually will become a valuable website.
Publish Quality Content with Unique Graphics
Content is King. Unique content means a unique idea. For example, ESP32 Arduino Smartwatch Detector with Buzzer is an unique article. A good website should have at least 50% unique content. We shared some tips on our article How to Get a Featured Snippet on Google Search Result which will help in the format. Creating only unique content is not practical to create a lot of content. Some content needs to be around what peoples ask, reviews, or an article this one. If we continuously fire articles on cloud computing, big data, Arduino that will become a “micro-niche” website. Our main focus should be around core engineering topics but we have to create some articles which will add some diversity. A unique graphics means the none has done representation in the same way. A unique graphics work in the same way like the unique content. Pinterest to several websites is important in today’s web. Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Create a manually crafted table of content in the important articles
- Do not copy-paste the text in your post. If you need to quote more than 1 sentence, then use screenshot.
- Avoid to become verbose.
- Write in your natural way.
- Use some AI-based service like Grammarly to write correctly. You can use human copy-editors as well.
- Create a nice graphics, purchase photos on need.
Maintain the Rules of Old On-Page SEO
Keep the minimum length of an article closer to 500, a good length of article is around 800 words. An article of 2000-2400 words is descriptive and excellent for linking from the authorities sites. Avoid creating a single article of 10,000 words, instead make it multi-part series like our Influence of Digitalization on Marketing and connect them with `rel=”prev”` and `rel=next`. Most of these are known to any self-hosted WordPress user. The SEO plugin authors have enough good description of importance :
- Keyword density- A keyword density of 0.5% to 1.5% is enough great
- Heading tags- It is not mandatory to have the keyword in H1, H2, H3 in today’s era. Use the keywords in H2, H3 only if really sounds natural.
- Meta description- Fill out your hand-crafted meta description.
- Write a keyword rich title which works.
- Image – Use proper alt tag.
- Link to the old related articles.
- Edit the old articles and add link to the new related articles. It is a difficult work!
Find the Spammy Links and Disavow Them
Disavow the bad, spammy backlinks. Google has a good informative article on it. Your rival may go to a site like Fiverr, SEOClerck and use cheap bulk link-building services to generate some 10,000 low-quality links within a day like a hacking effort. Moz’s free online tool to check DA can be used to check the spammy links. Do thorough web-search with the spammy domain and disavow it.
Frequently publish and publish as much possible
4-6 posts per day are ideal to ping the search engines. 1 post per day is a minimum need. More will be the number of posts per day less will be a dependency on purchasing backlinks. To build a good website, it takes over a decade and a lot of money. Promote your good article with ads on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest to gain “social signal”.
If your website is around technology, then you have a good opportunity to participate in the reputed question and answer sites and product forums (which actually will include all the top IT companies like IBM, Microsoft, HP, Samsung). Without having a trusted profile, you can not backlink to your website. This backlinking strategy is used by all of the IT companies. Google employees answer on StackOverflow and nicely backlink. Publishing sponsored content, paid guest post on the trusted sites are towards grey work but they work simply because the system is link dependent. Increasing DA essentially needs a lot of good links and there are not many niche-related good websites who will help for free of cost.
Optimize the website in the way Google Suggests
Optimize the page loading speed, make the website mobile-friendly, link your website from niche relevant social networks. Most of the self-hosted WordPress users already have good navigation, breadcrumb etc basic building blocks of creating an “easy to navigate” website. Use a combination of readable fonts of a practical size.
ahrefs has similar scoring system named website authority. Content is King. External links are not reliable in the long term. All of the websites loss lot of good links out of different reasons. Sometimes some large social network gets closed blowing a solid hammer. Good content creation and finding good backlinks are the only keys to keep the website in good shape. There is not much new in Google’s methodologies – you’ll simply need a lot of niches relevant manually inserted links which is difficult for most persons adding a virtual limit on old PR and present DA.
