Pigeon Rank : has Google meant something beyond an April fool?

Pigeon Rank was declared long back in 2002 as a perpetrating April Fools’ Day hoaxes by Google. Has it any other meaning or just a hoax?

It was said in the official blog about Pigeon rank:

The heart of Google’s search technology is Pigeon Rank, a system for ranking web pages developed by Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford University.

Well, it is better to read the full “article” on Pigeon Rank line by line in the official blog. I have stolen the image attached below from the same Pigeon rank blog:

During saving the “Pigeon Rank Proprietary logo“, we noticed the image is named pigeon_system, not pigeon rank.

Apart from just an April Fool has Pigeon Rank any deeper meaning?

Google is a very serious company along with fantastic humor sense. We notice this sense of humor through Doodles, April Fools etc.

Pigeon Rank has certain meaning which we are going to discuss quoting the sentences of the original blog.

Yes, Google has now added Page Speed and working on SPDY. Accuracy in search result has been achieved more now. It was said 9 years ago.
