This tutorial will show you, how you can enable and choose the seven backgrounds provided by Microsoft by default (but they are not easily discoverable) in Windows Media Player 12. You do not need any extra 3rd party software. After reading the tutorial, you can do yourself very easily.
Step 1:
Click Start button, type “regedit” (without quotes), the program will appear at the top of the list; right click over it and select “Run as Admin…” ; accept any security prompt. See the screenshot below:

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences
in the left side pane:

In the right hand pane navigate down to “LibraryBackgroundImage” and double-click on it. Make sure that hexadecimal is checked and enter a number from 0 to 6 in the value data field and click OK :
Default value is 6. Change it as you want.
Results:

Value data: 5
Value data: 4
Value data: 3
Value data: 2
Value data: 1
Value data: 0
So, you got the preview of all seven backgrounds!
