What is Drone or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)?

Drone is Non-Specific Word. The thing which usually you read in gossip newspapers are Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Here is basics on Drone. Drone itself can mean a Robot, an Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) or the former which we are talking about – Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). A drone or UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is an aircraft with no on board passengers and are remote-controlled or autonomously controlled, which can optionally carry a payload for its mission missions like – surveillance, exploration, transport, etc. The drones were generally used for the armed forces or security forces (police, customs, etc.) of a state, but now Drones has been special topic and can be purchased from online and physical shops. There is a French company named “Parrot”, it was established business development of Voice Recognition software, around 2010 they unleashed the “Parrot”‘s wings – since 2013, “Parrot” Company is the major Drone or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) manufacturer for the Civilians. Until mid 2013, Drone or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) was not much of interest to the general population – this is true both in US and India. Specifically in India, still there is not much enforcing Laws for operating Drones by the civilians.

What-is-Drone-Parts-of-Drone

Drone or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) : Basics

The size and mass of a Done depends on the desired operational capabilities – few grams to several tons. The autopilot system or control from the ground opens a new opportunities for very long flights of several tens of hours. Some non-ballistic missiles, particularly cruise missiles, often have the aerodynamic appearance of drones. The missile is however not reusable, since destroyed at end of mission, unlike the drone it is not returned to its base.

The term unmanned aerial systems tends to predominate. International Civil Aviation Organization, in turn has retained the name RPA (for “Remotely Piloted Aircraft” or “remotely piloted aircraft”). Indeed, the UAV itself is a component system which comprises of :

  1. one or more aerial vectors with sensors;
  2. one or more ground stations and control of the detections;
  3. a radio data link between the airborne vehicle and the ground control;

The term “drone” is mostly used for the air carrier equipped UAV. In the military field, the family of UAVs is divided into sub-categories according to their speed, range and their functions, somewhat like the other aircrafts. The problem started with the mass purchase of cheaper Drones and Drones for the delivery of commercial goods to the end consumers and older aircraft related laws.

Drone or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) : Usages and Other Points

Drone itself is not a new concept, Drones are in use since 1916 in Military activities, Film Making and Other purposes which an ordinary civilian otherwise will not feel disturbed. But within a 100 years range, Drones became cheaper and untrained civilians started to purchase them like toys. Drones can be equipped with:

  1. A camera, which can transmit live what is happening on the ground;
  2. An infrared camera , detecting any sort of heat (human, animal, or from a vehicle);
  3. A gyroscope , allowing them to stabilize the movements and offset, allowing the monitoring of the target;

Drones “observe” in four different ways – visual, radar , infrared , radio frequency and electro-optical and can keep the video recordings. In December 2010 , an open source has emerged named ArduCopter. Since late December 2011 , ArduCopter is a complete development platform for radio-controllable and / or fully autonomous drone. This is the first electric flying robot which is completely open source.

Unfortunately, a very low weight, low capacity Drone can not be controlled by Laws much and there are abnormal peoples, who practically are reckless and that is which is everyone’s concern. An one Kilogram Drone might not be legally important, but if it falls over a human’s head on the ground, it is sufficient to cause death. The best measure possibly will be to add flying license and imposing aviation Laws like bearing a chassis number on the Drones. Drones, itself can do lot of good work, even if the non-profits, a group of people uses them to assist the Law and Administration, number of crimes can be controlled.
