The Best S Pen Apps For The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

The S Pen is a stylus marketed by the Samsung brand with its Galaxy Note series and is bundled with S22 Ultra, S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra. It uses technology from Wacom. The tip of the pen is 0.7mm and manages the pressure, allowing you to vary the thickness or opacity of the stroke, for example.

The side button adds combinations. The button on the tailend is present so you can press it in when you put the S Pen back into the slot. Then you can press it back out and use it as a handle to extract the S Pen. It has no known electronic function. The panel of the S24 Ultra contains an electromagnetic wave emitter used to power and communicate with the S Pen. The stylus has an LC circuit that collects the electromagnetic wave and transforms it into current by electromagnetic induction. In exchange, it returns the level of pressure exerted on the tip and the possible activation of the side button.

The problem with the S22 Ultra was the curved screen, although the curved screen used to deliver an upmarket look. S24 Ultra is an improved version of the S22 Ultra (and S23 Ultra) while the S Pen is of the same generation.

Apps Designed to Work With S Pen Developed By Samsung

Most of the apps developed by Samsung support many features offered by S Pen. However,  several great apps are designed for the S Pen. Here are some of our favorites which are developed by Samsung:

1. Screen off memo: This app/software package is included with S24 Ultra. You can take quick notes when the phone is locked without unlocking your phone. All you need to do is pull out the S Pen and start writing.
2. Samsung Notes: This app is specifically designed for use with the S Pen. It lets you take notes, make sketches, and more. This is probably the best free app for note-taking for the Galaxy devices.
3. Write on PDF: This app lets you write directly on PDF files using the S Pen.
4. Pen UP: This app is perfect for those who want to sketch or paint on their phone. It has a wide variety of brushes and tools to choose from.
5. Calendar: This app is great for adding memos on calendar.

Apart from the above list Glance, Magnify, Live Messages, Circle to Search etc are well known to support the S Pen.

Third Party Apps Which Supports S Pen

We have tested many apps from the Google Play store and found that Samsung-developed apps are smooth, free and perfect. The software package and apps developed by Samsung should be enough for most users. However, certain apps can help in many ways, such as cross-sharing between devices or simply Samsung does not offer the solution.

Pen UP will be enough for the most. However, Autodesk Sketchbook offers more drawing tools.

Autodesk Sketchbook is another great S Pen app for the Samsung Galaxy S Ultra. This app allows you to create digital sketches using the S Pen. You can use an S pen to draw, paint, or edit photos. The app also has a variety of brushes and tools that you can use to create your sketches.

If you need to add signatures to PDF and other files quite often then you need an app which is specifically made for that purpose. You can import documents from cloud services such as Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive to sign and send them. None of the apps is fully free.

Microsoft OneNote is a free note-taking app that works well with the S Pen and can sync across various platforms. This is a mega version of Samsung Notes.

Squid offers a smooth writing experience and allows you to choose from a collection of backgrounds to write music, journal, or plot graphs.

Conclusion

We have not listed a bunch of apps including Adobe Photoshop Sketch, Nebo, Squid, INKredible, Bamboo Paper, and Microsoft Math simply because we found most of these apps remain unused.

There are useful apps such as Colorfy, Sketchbook, MyScript Calculator 2 etc or specialized apps for professionals and apps such as Google Map with supports S Pen. However, the small screen of smartphones is not suitable for all type of work.

Also, the tip (or nib) of the S Pen is not officially available for replacement. Although the S Pen is known to be tough enough, you probably should limit your work to the essential works.
