This problem may happen after Samsung releases an update. When a USB-C headphone is recognized as a charging device instead of an audio output device, it can be frustrating and may prevent you from using the headphones/DAC as intended. Several factors could cause this issue, ranging from compatibility issues to software glitches.
I faced this issue with Samsung S22 Ultra after they released an update to add the Galaxy AI features. After hours of trial & error, I could fix it. The first and foremost important thing is to clean the USB (both your headphone/DAC and phone) with pressurized air or something like that.
Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Restart your device and then plug in the USB-C headphone/DAC to see if they are recognized correctly. If you ask Samsung, they will copy-paste this:

Because it is some software, it is difficult to say whether what saved me can save you.
First, enable the developer’s option. Open the settings app on your Android phone. From the list of options find “About Phone” and click on it. In the About section find “Build number” or your phone version click on it 7 times to enable developer options. After that navigate to the settings main menu then you’ll get the “Developer options” near the end. Enable developers mode.
Search for ‘DISABLE USB AUDIO ROUTING’, if it is already off then turn it on. Below that, you’ll find “Media transcoding settings”, go to it and disable the “Enable transcoding” slider.
Then restart your phone.
After the restart, again search for ‘DISABLE USB AUDIO ROUTING’ in the developers option and turn it off. Go to the “Media transcoding settings”, and “Enable transcoding”. Make sure that USB debugging is off.
Then restart your phone.
Now we have to clear the cache. Go to Settings > Apps > Tap the 3 lines with the downward facing arrow to the right of ‘Your apps’ > Show system apps (toggle this option) > OK > USBSettings > Force stop > Storage > Clear cache > Clear data.
Samsung USB-C headset > Storage > Clear cache. Also, make sure that there is sufficient permission for Music and Audio.
Then restart your device.
Now your USB C headphone/DAC should start working. If still does not work, you can start your phone in safe mode. Thereafter your option is to visit Samsung’s service center. Probably they’ll change the USB C port ($90).
