How To Add Lyrics to Songs in PowerAmp

In our earlier article, we have discussed What is Lyrics File (LRC File) and How to Get LRC Files For Songs. Although in that article, we mentioned the method to add lyrics for PowerAmp too, it was not a PowerAmp-specific article. That was more for the general audience. We have some readers who love music (maybe they are so-called audiophiles) because of this kind of article:

And all of us love PowerAmp. From our earlier article, we already know that we have to manually add the lyrics file in PowerAmp.

How To Find Lyrics Files For PowerAmp

Either you have to download the .lrc file of that song from some website or you have to create your own .lrc file. There are sites where people upload their created LRC files and others can download them. www.lyricsify.com, and www.megalobiz.com are some of them.

If your song’s file name is My All.flac then you should name/rename the corresponding file as My All.lrc and place it in the same folder/directory of the song.

How To Create Lyrics Files For PowerAmp

Not always do you find ready-to-use lyrics files or maybe you want lyrics in non-English language. In such cases, download free and open-source software for your computer named Subtitle Edit.

It supports both Linux and Windows. They have an old alpha version for Mac as well. It is very easy to use. You can drag and drop your music file on the top right pane and start playing. You can add a new timestamp by right-clicking and selecting the new line option.

There are other similar or more easy software including Gaupol- https://github.com/otsaloma/gaupol/.
There are online tools such as lrcgenerator.com.

If you do find the LRC file, you have to find the lyrics from any website like this one for example — https://genius.com/Mariah-carey-my-all-lyrics. Then you have to create an LRC file in the above way we have mentioned.

How To Use This Lyrics Files in PowerAmp

I have already mentioned that if your song’s file name is My All.flac then you should name/rename the corresponding file as My All.lrc and place it in the same folder/directory of the song.

Then you should open the PowerAmp app. Go to Settings > Look and Feel > Lyrics. You can use these settings:

Lyrics swipe up –> Always
Lyrics Button –> When local lyrics are available
Lyrics item in the track menu –> Open lyrics UI
Lyrics size –> Default
Scan LRC files –> Enable it
Always use UTF-8 –> Enable it

Then go to All Songs –> Triple dot menu icon –> Rescan. Restart the PowerAmp app and you will be able to see the lyrics icon whenever you play the song (it is on the left side in the player UI, and looks like a stack icon). A tap on the stack-like lyrics icon starts the lyrics.

Do You Know Any Tricks to Make the Process Faster?

Not many. There are tools for mass downloading the LRC files for your collection, such as this one: github.com/tranxuanthang/lrcget.

Yes, you can create lyrics files in any language including Hindi, Bengali etc. If you make the option Always use UTF-8 to enabled, it will show the correct language in PowerAmp. However, the highlight animation may not occur at all.
