In a peer-to-peer network, each participant (peer) acts as both a consumer and provider of resources. Content is distributed across multiple nodes (computers/devices) rather than being stored on a central server.
Examples include protocols like IPFS (InterPlanetary File System), where files are distributed across a network of nodes. When a user requests content, it is retrieved from the nearest or most available node rather than a centralized server.

Blockchain Technology

Blockchain, a decentralized and immutable ledger technology, is also used in decentralized websites. It can store not only transactional data (like cryptocurrencies) but also content and website information in a decentralized manner.
Websites hosted on blockchain networks are resistant to censorship and single-point-of-failure risks typically associated with centralized servers.

Users accessing decentralized websites contribute to the network by hosting and sharing content, creating a more resilient and scalable infrastructure.

Censorship Resistance and Privacy

Decentralized websites are inherently resistant to censorship since they lack a central authority that can control or shut down access to content. This attribute is particularly valuable in regions with strict censorship laws or where freedom of expression is restricted.
Additionally, decentralized architectures often prioritize user privacy by reducing the amount of personal data stored on centralized servers, minimizing the risk of data breaches or unauthorized access.

Content cannot easily be removed or blocked by authorities or centralized entities. Distributed networks are less prone to single-point-of-failure issues. Users have more control over their data and interactions online.
Decentralized networks can scale more effectively as they grow, leveraging resources from multiple nodes.

Usability: User interfaces and accessibility can be more complex compared to traditional websites.

Speed and Performance: Retrieving content from distributed nodes can sometimes result in slower load times.

Regulatory and Legal Considerations: Regulatory frameworks may not yet fully accommodate decentralized technologies, posing legal uncertainties.
