Guide for Using AppFog from Windows PC using Command Line Tools

Guide for Using AppFog from Windows PC using Command Line Tools is intended for the users who are still using Windows PC and can not use shell commands easily. We wrote an introductory article on Free Cloud Computing Platform as a Service (PaaS) from AppFog. This is a getting started guide to use AppFog.

 

Guide for Using AppFog from Windows PC : Preface

 

If you are using Windows PC, you basically can not use any UNIX commands by default. So we often need to install an additional software or bunch of softwares to use the UNIX commands. Moreover, there are many packages which are not present on Windows Operating System. For Mac OS X and Linux, these problems are not present. You can use Ubuntu Linux without the need to install it on your PC by using this method. This Guide for Using AppFog from Windows PC using Command Line Tools, however assumes that you will use Windows to use AppFog from Command Line.

It is basically easy, although not so smooth like Linux, that is the reason for this Guide for Using AppFog from Windows PC using Command Line Tools. First Install the RubyInstaller from this url :

Install it on your Windows PC :

Note the two checkboxes are checked. Complete it. Restart your computer and from the Start Menu, you will get the needed links :

Start command line tool by clicking the œStart Command Prompt with Ruby option. Now your Windows became a bit smart like Linux, type this :

gem update --system

 

This is to update Ruby. It will take a small time and after it is completed, run this command :

gem install af

 

This will actually install AppFog for Ruby :
