Cloud Storage : Understanding How it Works With Example

Cloud Storage is important today as the individuals and companies requirements are growing exponentially and backup becoming and increasingly critical strategy. From the point of view of the cloud storage solution to be taken must be evaluated, especially if it is a need to keep updated and distributed over wide areas, it is not an easy task, especially since there is not always the possibility to monitor the server with which you can add security problems, so it becomes difficult and comply with the backup policies. Beyond any possible difficulty, however, is the need for the companies to ensure a good storage service seven days a week available world wide for its users, here is why Cloud Storage is especially important in respect to the budget constraints.

Basics About Cloud Storage

A service of cloud storage is a model of data storage on computers in the network, where the data are stored on different servers, real and / or virtual hosting inside of dedicated service providers provide these services. In essence, it is a model in which the backup is delegated to an external company. The activities for which it requires the use of cloud storage can be different : starting with the simple use of this solution as a backup, usually when the need is to save the images and data from multiple networked servers, but the cloud storage can also be used for the delivery of a large number of files within web applications for example. This normally allows a saving because you only pay the actual space consumed, allowing managers to pay higher figures only to grow the use of the service.

The question arises, however, to find the most suitable solution among the range of products available that can not always meet real needs, but can address certain contexts than others. Three important points are :

Reliability : there can be no single points of failure, the system must be fault tolerant, meaning that faults are managed and repaired with no downtime.

Low latency : A Cloud Storage service must be fast enough to support high-performance applications, especially with latency on server side, for access to data that must be negligible compared to the latency of the Internet. Any bottlenecks in sthe ystem performance can be solved by simply adding nodes to the system.

Cost : Open Source components with a low cost per GB will minimize infrastructure costs and these savings are reflected on the end users, which also access a service in which you pay only for what you actually use.

We have published many articles on Cloud Storage, which might be quite important for you. The articles on Cloud Block Storage, Architecture and Technology of Cloud Storage, Cloud Storage Gateway are mentionable articles. In addition you can search within our website with the phrases like Cloud Storage, Rackspace Cloud Files, Dropbox etc. for more guides, tips and tricks.

Example of Cloud Storage

Example simply does not mean name of the brands, that kind of articles we have published before. What we want to say is – how the thing basically works and what extra works can be done with a Cloud Storage Service. Rackspace Cloud Files is actually a Content Delivery Network, which doubles up as storage. However they have different Cloud Storage services like above linked Block Storage. Dropbox is another example of Cloud Storage which is quite simple to use. Rackspace actually uses OpenStack Swift for their Cloud Files on Akamai’s infrastructure. You can read guides like serving Full HTML Website From Rackspace Cloud Files CDN to get an idea of extra usages which are basically not related to storage.
