What SIP Trunking is and Why You Need It

What SIP Trunking is – SIP Trunking is based on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). It is for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and streaming media. Previously we published articles on both – Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and streaming media. If you imagine combining both, closer will be the technologies behind videoconferencing.

The advances in digital telecoms over the past few years have opened up a world of possibilities for Internet telephony. ISDN was the first major breakthrough, but the more recent developments, not least the growth of cloud computing, have made conducting all business communications via the Web more efficiently, more flexibly and more economical than ever before. One of such latest advance is SIP trunking, which affords enterprises the opportunity both to save money and greatly improve the scope of their telecoms system. This is the shortest answer to the query – What SIP Trunking is.

What SIP trunking is actually in easy language ?

Put simply, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunking is a form of telecommunications where all major functions take place over the Internet, relying only on local exchanges at the very end of the process. It is a robust and flexible alternative to the less wide ISDN option and is compatible with all forms of local, national and international telephone exchanges. SIP Trunking requires the minimum amount of hardware to install and little effort to maintain from the client’s premises, making it a great option for SMEs and larger enterprises alike.

What SIP Trunking is making it more popular ?

The advantage of SIP trunking is that, it by default provides a kind of sectioning or partitioning of the Unified Communications network into Private Domain and Public Domain. From a consumer’s point of view – the first major advantage is the simple cost savings benefit. Unlike analogue phone-lines or ISDN, SIP trunks cost less to install and can operate on per channel basis, as well as requires less equipment on premise.
This saves money is right from the beginning, as well as the convenience of having all maintenance and upgrade operations to be dealt by the provider, usually via the cloud. The calls themselves are far cheaper compared to the traditional providers, with substantial reductions in long distance and international call charges. What SIP Trunking is in brief, nothing but a new way for less costly communication service. Furthermore, the law obligations of the Public Domain controls the service providers, making it more safer.

The business advantages revolve around efficiency and flexibility. SIP trunking provide a safe and reliable telecoms system with the highest standards of voice and data quality and almost no chance of drop calls. They allow telephone numbers to be created and retained regardless of location and can offer a wide range of connections depending on the enterprise’s size and requirements. SIP trunking is a great step forward for any organization’s infrastructure if communication is a good part of the business, in most cases actually that is.
