ERP Software as a Service making and more companies interested but it still need cautious. For small business, individuals such offers can be interesting. Software as a Service ( SaaS ) plays a good role in the ERP area in comparison to other applications such as customer relationship management (CRM) up to date. Almost all of the classic ERP functions such as financial accounting, materials management, project management or marketing and sales can be realized today as a cloud solution. We will discuss whether this ERP Software as a Service is cost effective and whether ERP Software as a Service is usable for the medium to bigger enterprises.

ERP Software as a Service : Drag Individualization

It is important to distinguish between ERP in the cloud, in which the customer uses a specially configured and hosted for him for his requirements and customized ERP system such as NetSuite ERP, SAP and a true software-as-a-service offering. Latter characterized precisely by the fact that it is provided once standardized and then used by many instances. ERP softwares still largely are individualized systems. Therefore, there are only very few and mostly small businesses that perceive a highly standardized ERP Software as a service offering to be effective. It is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future. On the one hand, manufacturers are working hard to split the large package into smaller units that can then be used in part as a standardized service processes.

And on the other hand there are likely factors which are likely to increasingly add the burden, they really need to be counted. Frank describes the consequences Naujoks, Product Marketing Manager at Microsoft Dynamics AX , said: “We find generally that more companies to set standards again as a hundred percent coverage of their requirements by customizing the software.”

ERP Software as a Service : Attractive for small businesses and individuals

ERP Software as a Service

But the import of a medium many companies cost several days, until the ERP software running properly again. With SaaS offerings for this effort the user is attributable entirely himself/herself. Because in this model, the software will permanently maintained by the manufacturer in the background, without the user being affected. Cloud computing is primarily great for the smallest organizations providing access to ERP. Before the cloud computing or rather as a service models, these companies could not afford technologies such as ERP systems.

There is also the issue of security, which is gaining importance due to increasing requirements in terms of security compliance, the cloud model is particularly attractive for small and medium businesses, but they do lack the resource for proper knowledge or checkup. Most of these service providers talks particularly about failures of hardware. They show the hardware are better which therefore inherently are more secure. Which is definitely a half truth.

In the era of Platform as a Service with a free usage layer alongwith Free / Open Softwares, the usability of any software as a service except mail server for non-domain name emails do arises the question of controlling the backend.
