Hybrid Cloud Computing in Depth

Hybrid Cloud Computing combines a traditional data center with which the private cloud with scalable cloud services combine to form a public cloud. So, many terminologies are uttered within one sentence. Let us explain what is this Hybrid Cloud Computing. We published ago an article outlining the concept of Hybrid Cloud Computing.

Basic understanding of how Hybrid Cloud Computing works

We have written in details about Private Cloud and Public Cloud Computing. Hybrid Cloud Computing is more complex and usually offered as proprietary solution. As you can understand, Private Cloud has some limitations, to overcome these boundaries, specific to an Enterprise, the concept of Hybrid Cloud Computing took birth.

Technology behind Hybrid Cloud Computing

Still now, we were talking about servers – its about datacenter now. Take that, you have a datacenter with some working servers. You want to power your existing system with Cloud Computing. You can not compromise with security, so its not possible to go directly to Public Cloud, in the same time private cloud might put some boundaries or you do not want to move or can not move all the data to another brand’s server. Its matter of fact, your existing infrastructure will be a wastage if you do not use them. Here is where the concept of Hybrid Cloud Computing comes.

Although the above paragraph mainly says about Hybrid Cloud Computing for the Enterprise, it is possible to create a Hybrid Cloud Computing environment with at least one dedicated server or better a colocation server. We personally think, although a dedicated server can work for using in Hybrid Cloud Computing, it is better to think about a colocation server for Hybrid Cloud Computing. This will ensure more hardware security.

Now, in order to connect either your one server or a datacenter with the cloud computing platform to form the Hybrid Cloud Computing environment – that is, when needed, the cloud will power the system, you need two things –

  • First important thing about Hybrid Cloud Computing is a Virtual Private Network. This will ensure the secure integration of the Cloud with your own setup. A dedicated firewall like CISCO ASA is used in Hybrid Cloud Computing.
  • Second requirement for Hybrid Cloud Computing is dedicated load balancer.
  • Third requirement is a specific technology that will ‘bind’ these two systems working seamlessly.

There are several typical models of Hybrid Cloud Computing, each of them is unique and tailored according to the need.

Who needs a Hybrid Cloud Computing setup

Ecommerce Sites and Big Blogs needs the lower end of Hybrid Cloud Computing, where as a Bank might need the highest Hybrid Cloud Computing configuration.
