RedHat JBoss xPaaS vs Urban Airship Push Notification, exactly not comparable but at the end of the day, both are about Push Notification. Urban Airship is almost the king of combination of mobile marketing strategies – analytics, engagement strategies and push notification whereas JBoss xPaaS services provide Middleware as cloud based services on OpenShift. There is another flavour named Aerogear which provides extensible libraries and server side components for mobile development. So, there is some comparable part for the end of the developments or investments. You can not SSH to Urban Airship service. They are not comparable from infrastructural part. We talked Push Technology in an older article.

JBoss xPaaS services include Mobile Services. Among the mobile services one is JBoss Unified Push. JBoss xPaaS gives the capability ton build applications, integrate with other systems, orchestrate using rules and processes, and deploy across hybrid environments. With bigger plan is needed for the whole matter. There is relationship of AeroGear with OpenShift. All are Red Hat related. In short, JBoss unified Push Server allows to send native push messages to Apple™s Push Notification Service (APNS) and Google™s Cloud Messaging (GCM). So this set is for more control from programatic point of view. We can SSH to the apps, we can normally like other OpenShift quick start and most importantly – this is free of cost. Paid part is for getting included to the other device manufacturers or platform providers like Apple. You need to manage this part yourself. Control is more, recurring cost is lesser but knowledge of programming required will be higher.

On the other hand, Urban Airship is frankly a set of Software as a Service. Urban Airship has ready to use analytics, offers engagement strategies and push notification features. It uses location, platform and preference to deliver tailored and engaging notifications to users. The toolkit has a web based editor to schedule updates. There is a Mobile Relationship Management feature for contextual analytics reporting. There is Wallet Studio to integrate with Apple Pay and Google Wallet. Push Services suports Android, iOS, Windows 8+, BlackBerry, Amazon Fire Phone. Recurring cost is more, features are easy to get, no headache for basic pushing – no Apple, Google related works. Less control on the backed – practically you can not control their backend. SaaS model of service delivery.
