Desktop Virtualization : Why it is an Apparent Flop

Desktop Virtualization as VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) could not have been successful on a broad front. This has technical and financial reasons. All one to two percent of the worldwide installed 15 million desktops are currently loaded with VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) completely from the server. Given that the the technology is advertised aggressively for years, there is not much growth versus shady cloud business.

After all, the proportion of desktops that are delivered via VDI, might increase up to 8 – 10 percent by 2015 – that would be a fourfold increase, but still it is far from wide-scale implementation. The volume of the global VDI market and Desktop Virtualization market is around of 800 million U.S. dollars. Which is practically nothing when the practical solid base of virtualization can be thought of.

Desktop Virtualization : The Technology Behind

That the enforcement considered at least superficially plausible approach may be slow in slow in progress, is nothing new in itself to give bigger cathy advertisement. With Desktop Virtualization, the indisputable advantages are consistent and easier management of all included desktops can not be ignored.

We published about Desktop Virtualization Before through various articles :

  1. Benefits of Desktop Virtualization for Business
  2. Desktop Virtualization with VMware
  3. Desktop Virtualization with VMware View
  4. Desktop Virtualization with Oracle VirtualBox
  5. Desktop Environment and Virtualization

Desktop Virtualization is very cost effective for medical researches – a centralized, well controlled, device / OS specific approach. he users find it positive that their desktops are started in the background and the boot in the workplace takes only five seconds. Doctors, who are often in different departments move their entire working environment now have immediately at any location again before our eyes.

Unfortunately, the open source and free options, the shared idea never reaches to the needy client nor a newer company can promote their flexible options of Desktop Virtualization services. It might happen, one good company might not fulfill the need of a client with their closed source technology – Citrix might not be a good option for all.

Desktop Virtualization : Why it is an Apparent Flop

The apparent flop or less growth is fully due to Google’s odd business strategy which definitely prevents the growth of the Desktop Virtualization as a technology.

Regarding buying Wikipedia page – search exactly with :

Vim
1
Buy Wikipedia Page

You will get stunned with the manipulated search result. Over 70% results are of Wikipedia, most has no relevancy. Desktop Virtualization is quite high value keyword, it is even impossible for VMware to spend much, the margin of profit is lower, the number of consumer base is lower (versus web hosting related softwares).

Is it an acceptable theory that a student of 17-19 years from India (Wikipedia/Wikimedia focused few like press release) is writing about higher technologies on Wikipedia and those articles are appearing at top of the SERP ! Where as a dot edu webpage written by an aged professor is no where in the first 20 results. If you have a professional degree, you can try to correct the errors – be it on medical part (practically equivalent to affiliate webpages, honestly at 17 of years I had no idea about a particular drug), legal writings – your editing will be reverted back – its definitely a closed source worser than Google itself – Google does give value to a real person.

Desktop-Virtualization

It is true that, Google has lot of expenses for open source projects, they invest a lot for the organizations. But for saving their business, the results are becoming biased in practical usage for less known, less written about technologies. Desktop Virtualization is one of the known technology which can not reach the clients solely due to Googles two way sword – AdWords on Search Results and Wikipedia’s spammy webpages. You can forget about the SERP of a source forge project or Github repo. There is not much ROI in writing on Desktop Virtualization, VDI – one click costs around $20.00 on search result Ad.

Desktop Virtualization is a powerful technology which can make you to use your Mac Pro’s full power by all the users of your home from a simple Android Tablet. It can be a cost saving and power saving option, specially with Free Softwares.
