We Have Explained the Types of Cellular Phone Towers for Mobile Communication Used for Basic Telephony to 3G, 4G / LTE Wireless Mobile Connection. It is improbable that you’ll find good data on Types of Cellular Phone Towers unless you are in the core business or a Networking Specialist. We can not assume that all the readers has minimum knowledge about UTMS, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, 4G, LTE etcetera technologies. So, click and read the basic articles we have hyper linked.

Due to the popularity of the mobile devices, the towers have also popped up everywhere you will look at. However, not all cell phone towers are the same. There are five different types of Cellular Phone Towers for Mobile Communication to transmit the signals. One Tower can be used by multiple companies. The companies who install Cellular Phone Towers are not the mobile service providers. There are lot of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering related works needed to erect one tower. Otherwise they will fall on our head with minimum push by the air!
There can be proprietary equivalent terminologies used by the Companies who manufactures the Cellular Phone Towers.

Self Supporting Towers or Lattice Towers

---

Self Supporting Towers (SST) or Lattice Towers are the most common, most basic, versatile towers. The towers that are supported on ground or on buildings without guy rope are called as Self Supporting Towers or Lattice Towers. Though the weight of these towers is more they require less base area and are suitable in many situations – they are used for radio, television, Power transmission and flood light installation too. It stands 200-400 ft. tall with a triangular base and three-four sides. It is typically used for basic telephony. The lattice towers offer the most flexibility of all of the cell tower types. Lattice towers are generally made out of steel and offer the most stability of the cell phone tower types. Usually they are White-Red color painted. Color code can vary from country to country.

Monopole Towers

Monopole Towers have a single self supporting pole and generally they are placed over the roofs of high raised buildings, when number of antennae required are less or height of tower required is less than 9 meter. Antennae are mounted on the exterior of the tower. Its primary use is in telephony.

Guyed Towers

Guyed Tower is a cheap but good solution. Basically a Guyed Tower is a straight rod supported by guy wires which are attached to the ground as support for stability. Height of 300 ft and beyond are usual. Some guyed towers reach as high as 2,000 ft. These guy wires require a larger piece of land for the tower to rest on. They are used for telephony, radio, television and paging. Guyed Masts Towers are normally guyed in three directions over an anchor radius of typically ? of the tower height and have a triangular lattice section for the central mast. Probably they are second most common after Lattice Towers by count.

Stealth Towers

Stealth Tower is a branded terminology.Stealth towers are required for various good reasons to ensure that they blend in with their surroundings. They can be deployed to satisfy zoning regulations. Many people view bare cellphone towers as ugly and an intrusion into their neighbourhoods. Even though people increasingly depend upon cellular communications, they are opposed to the bare towers spoiling otherwise scenic views. Many companies offer to ‘hide’ cellphone towers in, or as, trees, church towers, flag poles, water tanks and other features. They are very costly to build and technically less efficient.

Shelter Towers

Shelter Towers provide shelter to the costly instruments as a part of towers for GSM and CDMA services – they look like a small one room house and the tower is usually a Lattice Tower. It is basically a hybrid type of setup.

Broadcast Towers

Broadcast Towers are guyed towers with three or more guy wires attached to grounded anchors. Broadcast towers can take up a great ground space, color coding is like that of Lattice Towers. They are usually not used as Cellular Phone Tower.

We are not describing the types of antennae in detail. Antenna Array is used for CDMA, GSM, LTE, WiMAX. They look like small blocks. Microwave Dish is a large round antenna and can serve the purpose of basic telephony. Not all kind of antennae can be mounted on any type of Towers.
